What are the roles queer and trans play in the international carceral apparatus? How do criminality, race, mobility, and the gendered body intersect in the era of globalization. The panel features Professor SA Smythe (UCLA), Professor Dylan Rodriguez (UC Riverside), and Callen Lowell (a law student at Columbia working on the lawsuit against the Georgia ICE facility that allowed nonconsensual gynecological procedures on inmates). They will be discussing the role of queer and trans in the international carceral apparatus, investigating the intersections of criminality, race, and mobility in the era of globalization.  Moderated by Professor Grace Lavery (UCB), with Jon Jon Moore (UCB) as introducer.

Hosted by the UC Berkeley’s Graduate Assembly’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Advocacy Project.
Co-sponsored by the English Department and the Center for Race & Gender.
