Freedom School for Intersectional Medicine and Health Justice

The Freedom School for Intersectional Medicine and Health Justice working group seeks to:

1) continue cultivating a community and healing space for women of color and individuals dedicated to exploring the intersections of critical theory, intersectional identities, and health justice for all

2) integrate critical race theory and social justice into medical education and public health practic

3) educate and engage in other forms of healing (non-Western and indigenous) that are prevalent among communities of color and/or marginalized communities

4) produce an art exhibition called “Through Our Eyes”.

A Freedom School Advocacy Photography Series on the stories of WoC in Medicine and Public Health Through the Freedom School for Intersectional Medicine and Health Justice working group, we will discuss and center the history and lived experiences of women of color as focused teaching points that are continuously foundational to envisioning a more inclusive medicine and public health practice. From the work so far, we have generated publications, a website, a report on Abolishing the Use of Biological Race in Medicine, Freedom Community Clinic, and a network of people dedicated to approaching medicine and healing with an expanded, social justice perspective.
